A room that can change its mind

Flexible spaces begin with leaving a few decisions open.

Map the everyday uses

A room may be a place to work in the morning and to read in the evening. Write down what actually happens there before deciding on a layout. The most important use is not always the one suggested by the room's name.

Make movement easy

Keep frequently used paths clear and choose a few objects that can be moved without effort. A light chair or a small side table can allow several arrangements without requiring a new set of furniture.

Keep one area unfinished

An empty corner can be useful. It may become a place for a visitor's bag, a temporary project or a plant that needs more light. Flexibility is not the absence of a plan; it is a plan that leaves room for daily life.
